Picking the right lens

I am sure we have all searched for reviews and videos of different lenses we are interested in getting for our DLSR. It is amazing how many different opinions there are about the same lens. Some bad, some great and some swear by it. It almost makes it worst to read all the reviews because now you become even more confused and uncertain which to buy. In my expierence I went through all of that myself.  So what i decided to do is purchase each lens and try them out in the same situations, lighting, conditionsetc. I analyised all the shoots in Lightroom 3 and made my decision from there. I must say even though the off brand lens create amazing images, sometimes I had issues with focus speed, hunting and blur. With that said I decided to go with all Nikon lenses. Mainly for resale value and just the certainity of getting my shots. The lens I tested where the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8 vs the Nikon 17-55 f/2.8. Nikon beat the Tamron in focus speed. focus noise, hunting factor and lack of softness. Image quality was great on both though. I also tested the Tamron 70-200 f/2.8. Again, great image quality. But in low light this lens was so slow to focus and hunted for focus alot. Even at higher shutter speeds it still did the same thing. Focus is noisy which is no big deal. But its all about focus accuracy to me. I went with the Nikon 70-200 vr.  Hope this helps.

Hi Steve! Very interesting your opinion about the resale value of the Nikon lenses . But I'm thinking that you should also compare the Nikon 17-55 f2.8 with the Sigma 17-50 f2.8. Some people put the sigma slightly lower than Nikon's but very above over the Tamron. Even the price of the Sigma it's higher than the Tamron. Personally I've got the Sigma and images have a superior quality. I love it. As I mention good article. Regards.
